Bouclé, linen or wool

How each one wears, how it cleans, and why we post six swatches before you choose.

How each one wears, how it cleans, and why we post six swatches before you choose.

Bouclé

Bouclé is woven from looped yarn, which is why it looks like a lamb. Ours is 70% wool and 30% alpaca. The loops hide crumbs and the occasional cat hair, and they spring back after you sit. It is the warmest of the three and the most forgiving to live with.

It pills a little in the first months, where hands rest. A fabric shaver takes the pills off in a minute, and then it settles.

Linen

Our linen is a heavy Belgian weave. It creases as soon as you sit on it and softens every year. It is the coolest to sit on in summer and the quickest to show a spill, so it comes with removable covers that go in a cool wash.

Wool

The pepper wool is a tight weave in grey and white. It is the hardest wearing of the three, rated for twice the rubs of a normal domestic sofa, and the right choice for a house with children or a dog.

Why we post swatches

A screen cannot show you how a fabric feels, or how it looks in your light at four in the afternoon. Order up to six swatches. They are free, they arrive in three days and they are yours to keep.

Next note

Will it go through the door?

Swatches, new pieces and the odd note from the workshop. Once a month.
